- Never pay a token amount or any advance before you have seen the car in person; be wary of prices far below the market and sellers who are "posted elsewhere".
- Meet the seller in a busy public place and inspect the car in daylight.
- Check the documents: original RC (chassis and engine numbers must match the car), valid insurance, PUC certificate, service history and the seller's ID.
- If the RC shows hypothecation (a car loan), the seller must close the loan and provide the bank NOC and Form 35 first.
- For a car registered in another state, the seller needs an NOC (Form 28) from the original RTO.
